In order to reflect the fact that the app is now only available on Pixel devices, Google has changed the name of its camera app from "Google Camera" to "Pixel Camera" in the Play Store. The change is probably due to the app's long-standing exclusivity for Pixel devices.
The Pixel Camera app has undergone a name change in addition to receiving a new user interface and a number of additional capabilities, such as Portrait, Night Sight, Time Lapse, and Cinematic Blur. It should be noted that only Pixel devices running Android 14 and higher can access these functionalities.
Additionally, the Wear OS 3 and later devices connected to Pixel phones are supported by the app, enabling users to remotely operate the camera from their smartwatch.
The The Pixel Camera app for the Pixel Fold, Tablet, and 7 Pro is now at version 9.0. On the other hand, the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are now using version 9.1 and will shortly receive a patch update. Some of the special features of the Pixel 8 Pro, such as 50MP High Res and Pro Controls, are also highlighted in the app's Play Store page.
Google initially introduced the Pixel Camera line at I/O 2023, along with other Pixel-specific software and services like Pixel Call Assist, Pixel Speech, and Pixel Safe. These services and apps are designed to give Pixel users a better and more enjoyable experience.
