It has been rumored that Nintendo has contacted Samsung Display about getting OLEDs.
The rumor of the Nintendo Switch 2—which isn't officially verified but is almost certainly in development—is growing. On Friday, a South Korean news source said that Nintendo would release an OLED model of their upcoming handheld device straight out of the box. Unofficially dubbed the Switch 2, it may also be on store shelves earlier than anticipated.
First, we have a rumor from ChosunBiz. Nintendo "asked Samsung Display to supply OLED panels" on December 1, 2023, according to the report released on Friday. Nintendo apparently intended to collaborate with BOE, a Chinese provider of consumer electronics components, but ultimately chose to work with Samsung Display. The action is said to be connected to the ongoing legal action for patent infringement that Samsung Display initiated against BOE earlier this year in an effort to defend five proprietary OLED technology.
It may not be necessary for gamers to wait for a new and enhanced screen like they did with the original Switch if Nintendo is obtaining OLEDs from Samsung Display and using those OLEDs for the Switch 2. Even though the Switch was released in 2017, Nintendo didn't offer a version with a larger, more vibrant OLED display until late in 2021. This prompted considerable conjecture as to whether Nintendo might use the same tactic for the Switch 2. Conversely, some have forecast that Nintendo will release two Switch 2 variants at the same time. According to one leaker, this is done to provide room for both a regular version and a digital-only version , It's possible that Nintendo is getting ready to release an OLED and an LCD version.
In October, the same leaker said that Nintendo planned to launch the Switch 2 in either September or November of 2024. However, another trustworthy leaker who is acquainted with Samsung claims that the new portable might reach consumers before then.
On December 4, X user Revegnus stated, "It looks like the Nintendo Switch 2 will be coming out early next year." "The upcoming year will bring a lot of worthwhile purchases." Although leakers frequently can't divulge sensitive sources, it's important to note that Revegnus remained silent when pressed for a source.
In the event that the Switch 2 does launch in early 2024, we only have a months or even weeks before Nintendo makes an official announcement. As soon as it goes live, we will disclose the specifics.
