The Mix Fold 3's replacement is expected to be waterproof and lighter, and Xiaomi is developing the first folding smartphone with a Leica camera for the worldwide market.

The Honor Magic V2, which is currently available in Europe, is the thinnest and lightest foldable available in this country. However, 2024 is still early, and there will be a lot of foldables released this year that could overtake Honor's dominance. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, the first model to be released globally with a Leica camera, is probably one very intriguing contender.

With the Mobile World Congress coming up at the end of February, Xiaomi is now busy getting ready for what will likely  

 deliver the Xiaomi 14 Ultra—apparently—to Europe in addition to the global variants of the Xiaomi 14 and, potentially, the Xiaomi 14 Pro. Still, the next generation of Xiaomi foldables has been keeping the development laboratories very busy for quite some time. Rumor has it that the successor to the Mix Fold 3 will be released this year—at least outside of China—after a global model was found in the IMEI database.

A few days prior, an insider said that the rival to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold5 and the next Galaxy Z Fold6, which is scheduled for release this summer, would make its way to European shores. Kartikey Singh, an Indian leaker, has since added further details 

on a few of the upcoming upgrades. It appears that the Mix Fold 4 will once more provide a thorough redesign to the hinge, which enabled the Mix Fold 3 to maintain stability in a partially opened position, similar to Samsung's Foldables, so that it could serve as a tripod for a camera, for example.

The leaker claims that the upcoming hinge generation will be both notably lighter and even more resilient than the present model, the Mix Fold, which weighs 250 grams, which is much more than the competition from Honor and Co., which is already available in Europe. With the Mix Fold 4, Xiaomi ostensibly hopes to challenge Samsung's waterproof hinges; hence, the Mix Fold 4 may receive IP certification for the first time. Of course, the claims made by the leaker must continue to be regarded as unsubstantiated rumors.
