Apple has included a feature that enables Apple TV customers to use their iPhone to find a lost Siri Remote in iOS 17 and tvOS 17. To find out how to accomplish it, continue reading.
There were reports that Apple will incorporate Find My capability into the Siri Remote prior to the release of the most recent Apple TV 4K. Although that didn't occur, Apple has now added a new iPhone option that essentially accomplishes the same thing in its most recent significant software updates.
Apple secretly updated the firmware for its second- and third-generation Siri Remotes at the beginning of September. The latest software, tvOS 17, and iOS 17 make the Apple TV remote control available in the event that a Siri Remote is lost.
You can look for the lost remote on an iPhone in the Control Center.
When enabled, users will see an interface on their iPhone that resembles Find My and directs them toward the remote. A circle on the screen changes size to direct movement in the appropriate direction.
The function is only accessible on the Apple TV 4K models released in 2021 and 2022, and it is only available on the second and third-generation Siri Remotes.
Additionally, keep in mind that the latest firmware is required and that there is no known way to force the Siri Remote to upgrade. To begin, the Apple TV must be updated, turned on, and connected to the Siri Remote. There is no mechanism to compel the download of the updated firmware.
Utilizing your iPhone, locate your Siri remote
Swipe down from the top right corner of your iPhone's screen (or swipe up from the bottom if your iPhone has a Home button) to open the Control Center.
If it's not already there, manually add the Apple TV Remote button to Control Center by tapping it.
Toggle the linked Siri Remote on by tapping the chevron next to its name.
Next to the lost Siri Remote, tap the Find button.
To find the remote, use the interface that looks like Find My on the screen. To steer motion in the right direction, the circle's size enlarges. In close proximity to the remote control with your iPhone, the screendisplays a sphere of pure white.
To close the location interface, tap the X button.
The proximity precision of the tool, in our experience, is comparable to finding an AirTag with Find My, making it really useful for finding your Siri Remote even if it's simply tucked down under the couch cushions.
