With amazing features including Wi-Fi 7 compatibility, 3K resolution per eye, and full-color passthrough, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 smoothly merges the virtual and physical worlds.

Users of Meta Quest 3 will enjoy a quicker and more immersive experience thanks to the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2's improved AI capabilities, improved power efficiency, and compatibility for Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6E.

Meta is still very much at the top of the heap when it comes to virtual reality, especially when it comes to   affordability. The upcoming Quest 3 from Meta seeks to maintain the company's dominance in the market, and Qualcomm's new Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset will help it do that. It's one of the most potent SoCs for a VR headset currently available, with eight times the AI performance per watt of the XR2 Gen 1 and 2.5 times the GPU performance.

The Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2's capabilities are extremely comparable to those of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It represents a significant increase over the Snapdragon 865-based XR2 Gen 1 with support for Wi-Fi 7, optimization for up to a 3K resolution per eye, and significant AI advancements.   . Additionally, there is full-color passthrough compatibility with speeds as quick as 12ms for comfort and fusing the digital and physical worlds.

Additionally, Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 has "no external battery needed" and "50% better power efficiency" in an obvious dig at Apple's own Vision Pro. It should also be substantially faster than the XR2 Gen 1 in other devices like the Meta Quest 2 because to its improved AI capabilities in environment tracking and plane detection. Users will also gain from more throughput and lower latency thanks to Wi-Fi 7 compatibility and Wi-Fi 6E, which is crucial when using tools like Meta's Quest Air Link for streaming games to your headset.

Additionally, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1, a less powerful SoC. primarily directed towards smart glasses. It supports a 1280x1280 display in each eye, has built-in AI, and features Wi-Fi 7 connectivity for quick, low-latency communication. In 2023, both will be available in Meta devices, with the Meta Quest 3 adding compatibility for XR2 Gen 2. The Snapdragon AR1 platform will also power the Ray-Ban Stories.
